Basic Tips Every Android Users Should Know

Did you recently got a new Android smartphone or tablet? Or you already own one. Whatever! may be the case, would you like to get the maximum from your Android ?

I am sharing some of my favorite tips, tricks and Apps. 7 basic tips every Android user should know. From changing wallpaper’s to securing your phone, things you probably didn’t know or bothered.

Please Note: Every Android gadget is different, may have slightly different version of Android. So you might have to look around a bit in the setting’s.But the options are there.

SEVEN BASIC TIPS EVERY ANDROID USERS SHOULD KNOW:

1: SECURE YOUR PHONE WITH A PASSCODE :

I think the first thing to do after buying a new Android device, is to create a passcode. Its very simple, does help to secure your phones content. Think about it: Your phone stores all your personal information.A thief would love to steal all those information.I agree its not a foolproof method, but helps. You don’t want to make things easy for them (thief).

So it make sense to have a strong passcode. Users who use the default passcodes like 0000 or 1234, its better not have it at all.

To access passcode feature go to Settings>Security >under screen security > you can choose the type of security. In some versions of Android, it could be under Security>>Location and Security>>Screen Lock.

Type of passcode can differ from phone to phone. Accordingly, you can choose to set a pin number, password or a connect-the-dots pattern. In some new versions of Android, you may have the option for “Face” or “Face and voice”. Like the Samsung Galaxy S5 which has a finger print sensor to unlock.

After you have set the passcode, don’t forget to enable the “Automatically lock” after certain period of time, say 15 seconds.

2: SAVE AND EXTEND ANDROID BATTERY LIFE:

Android gadgets are known for poor battery life.To put it simply, even the best big batteries, wont have enough reserves to power the big (five inches +) screens,HD display, along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and 3G connections, etc. And plethora of apps running in the background eats up all the juice.

There are many ways to save and extend Android battery life. To write all the tips is beyond the scope of this post.

3: TAKE A SCREENSHOT ON ANDROID:

Taking a screen shot on a computer, is one of the simplest thing to do. Its surprising that many users don’t know what the “Print screen” button in keyboard does.It takes a screen shot of your desktop and you can paste it in the paint program of windows.

In Android, its much simpler. Simply press the volume down and the power button at the same time. A screenshot of the present screen will be saved in your photo album folder.

4: CHANGE OR ADD A NEW WALLPAPER:

All Android smartphone comes with its default wallpaper. You don’t have to stick to it. There are plenty wallpaper that may have come with your device. Or just use one of your favorite photo. Make you phone more personal.

Tap and hold on any empty area on the Android home screen. You will see a pop-up menu “Choose wallpaper from” and you will get options to choose from Gallery, wallpapers, and live animated wallpapers. You can choose from your photo gallery, as wallpaper.Make your phone more personal.

5: ENABLE OR DISABLE AUTOROTATE SCREEN:

Android phone automatically changes the screen to portrait or in landscape view. Depending on how you hold the device. While this is convenient when you are watching a movie or sharing your photo gallery.

But it would be annoying when you are in the middle of typing a text message, or browsing the net. More so if your phone is too sensitive.

To disable auto rotate go to > Settings > Display > uncheck > Auto-rotate screen.
